Trauma Intensives
Information for Therapists
What should you know about joining your client for an intensive?
You know your client inside and out.
You know how far they've come...and exactly where their sticking points are that you just can't quite help them past
You probably know exactly where your client is stuck. You have wondered if you should refer them out, since you so deeply want them to get all the way through their healing work, but you care about them, and they feel safe with you. And your instinct is likely right. For clients with complex trauma, when they find a therapist that they feel safe and supported with, it is better for that therapist to learn and grow alongside them if they are willing than to refer them out to start the search all over again.
Maybe you...
Have an instinct about what is needed, but it involves modalities or techniques that you aren't deeply comfortable with or trained in
Have tried all of your tricks for trauma processing, but your client either dissociates or can't tolerate the intensity of processing, right when you get to the heart of the matter
Would like to learn how to get them through this point in an experiential way, so you can help them to complete the rest of your work and help other clients in similar situations
Client and Therapist Joint Intensives
Great For
You are trained in IFS or EMDR but not using them together
You have basic trauma training (EMDR, IFS, BSP), but your client needs advanced skills or techniques
Your client has a pattern of dissociation or hyperarousal that you haven't been able to manage in processing
You have some experience with parts work but no formal training, and you don't know where to go after getting to know all the parts
If this is you, read on.
Not For
You are not trained in any trauma processing modalities
You prefer specific modalities or frameworks that you use already and are comfortable that are not trauma processing modalities
You do NOT get excited when you think about getting to sit in on a trauma processing intensive
If this is you, you might consider sending your client for their own multi-day intensive, and continuing your work separately. I am still happy to collaborate about care!
